Play(ing)s

The category Play(ing)s contains info about my writing for the stage. There’s also one or two reviews and some comments about struggling to make it as a playwright in Germany. Feel free to browse. The category Birdgames contains a play I wrote around 1988 and first produced, albeit in German, in 1991. Both English and German version are available here.

Here some blurps/blurbs/blurds… of my work:

Birdgames

Two men on a lunch break playing child games - such as hopscotch and jaxx - and pursuing Woman. 2m, 1w. Available in English and German. Go here for more detail.

Siren of Sea #8

A disparate group of men waiting to use a port-a-potti at a construction site that is occupied by a siren. When everyone “has to go” who gets to go first? English. Never been staged or read.

A Hobo Tale

Have a read here.

Flight of the Dodo

Two young people in New Jersey have attempted suicide. Now they’re in a grey-zone between life and death with others who also have to face their (mis)deeds. 4m, 1w. 1hr, 15min. 1 act. English and German. Details to follow. Should I post this one in German?

Mackinaw

I don’t remember what it’s about; it was a test to see if I could write a full-length play in a day, which I did. Kind of a mess, though. English. Handwritten in an old hard-bound notebook.

Cloud

Scene two is available here. This was my take on the dubious business antics of Enron. It’s about those business units and the shredding of - not just - paper. 2m, 1w. 1hr, 10min. One act. English.

Blush

Emancipation or feminism? Women are getting the upper hand in the corporate world. Or? Women are just plain getting the upper hand. Produced in German - check it out. 2w, 3m. 1hr, 20min. Three Acts. English and German.

US

A very short play written a long time ago.

The Good Criminal

Here the first three scenes. Anyone can start a company in the late 90s if they’ve got the right connection and a few angels behind them. 2w, 3m. 1hr, 15min. Three Acts. English and German. Details to follow.

Bela Kaan

This play is in the works; might turn this into a novel. Cain and Abel go back to paradise to challenge God’s banning of their parents. More blurp available here.

Peter and the Producer

In the works. Peter can’t “make it” as a rich kid so he wants to prove something else to his infamous TV-producer father. More blurp available here.

Other very early and messy works are: Till the Cows Come Runnin’, The Genius Children, Sink (Single Income No Kids), etc., etc.

Wow, you really are into writing plays. I’m working on my book proposal today, but I’ll definitely come back and take a look. How long have you been writing?
